“A Cast of Stones” by Patrick Carr

A Cast of Stones (The Staff and the Sword, #1)A Cast of Stones by Patrick W. Carr

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This medieval fiction book seems to be loved by many. Receiving many highly-scored reviews, this lends great promise to what the series may hold for readers. As for the content, however, I did not find myself equally engaged. It could be due to most of my reading being nonfiction or crime thriller, but this book did not engage me. I found myself confused a few of the times by the events going on, as if importance was misplaced or the like.

Based off the fact that the book has received so many glowing reviews, I chalk my struggles with getting involved and understanding the text without re-reading as a personal issue, and not one of the author’s. Some books, I guess, just aren’t for me. That’s fine. Given the high praises, however, don’t let this review discourage you…
