John Trent presents a revision of his joint effort with Gary Smalley with the republication of “The Blessing.” Containing new commentary and tales, Trent explains what the Blessing is, and the responsibility of every Christian and every parent in regards to it. As he provides Scripture to support his statement, he asserts that even a lack of a blessing is considered a curse.
In full consideration, Trent presents a convincing argument. He is accurate in his explanation of Christian duties and parental responsibilities, but misuses the Scripture regarding the “tale of two brothers.” Failing to take a Jewish lens to a Jewish culture and Jewish writing, Trent abuses the verse with amateur interpretation. Nevertheless, the message is true, and biblical, even though the main tale provided is incorrectly applied.
This book is recommended for all parents and parents-to-be, as well as ministry leaders. But, in regards to all things, research what is read, and take everything with a grain of salt.
