“The Realms Thereunder” by Ross Lawhead

There must be something about the Lawhead family, releasing book after book in the Christian fiction genre. While Stephen’s writing is overly complex and difficult for the average reader, Ross manages to hit the nail just right in his new fantasy Ancient Earth series.

Based heavily on British lore, this tale of adventure is designed for the teenage reader, but written in a fashion that engages the adult bibliophile as well. Travelling underground, the reader joins a boy and girl (Daniel and Freya) on a journey to protect Britain from evil forces. Weaving Christian concepts in the background, Lawhead doesn’t overtly express any theological solidarity.

A great adventure for readers of all ages, this tale does feature otherworldly violence, which may frighten younger audiences.

SG recommends this book for the fiction enthusiast.
