This book features advice and insight by CEOs such as by Tony White, Eric Winning, Wayne Reuvers, Mark Schena, Guy Akasaki, Donald Pell, Shanin Specter, and more, with the goal of providing “850 years of wisdom from successful business leaders.” The contributions are sorted into categorical sections in the book: passion, vision, persistence, adaptability, customer-centeredness, and relationships. The compiler/author interviewed thirty-four CEOs that celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary to give us, the readers, over eight centuries of business acumen. This book gives us the “laws of leadership” and “secrets” to be successful at running our own company.
What makes this book unique is that instead of copy-pasting the contributions, the author instead narrates the interviews and feedback, giving the readers a “field research report” of each interview, complete with author intonations and insight. The author’s voice is easy to understand, not getting lost in corporate jargon and instead being simple to read, allowing the reader to follow along and obtain practical and relevant insight from this work.
This book is a great selection in the business advice section, both for corporate players and the local home team. Using actual experience instead of philosophical waxing, practical advice that can be implemented immediately is provided. This is most of what marks this work as unique. When looking at business advice, however, I would automatically look for other leaders of industry, but this book should be a “top-ten” pick.
