Kevin DeYoung is well known for being a leader in the field of Christian apologetics, which is the argumentation/defense of the Christian faith via philosophical, scientific, or logical reasoning. It comes as both no surprise and a complete surprise to me, then, that he is the author of this book.
The surprise? That DeYoung authored a children’s book and commissioned an artist for amazing imagery. The lack of surprise? Once you get into the story, it connects: this is an attempt, well-played and executed, at taking the complexity of Christian apologetics and telling a complete true story to children in a way a child would understand.
Not only is the commissioned artwork simply beautiful and engaging, but how DeYoung writes this book is simply eloquent. Told much like any other bedtime story, with “once upon a time,” DeYoung weaves a complete retelling of the story of the Bible, from start to finish, within the pages of the book. At the end, he explains the importance of this to adult readers and the opportunities for engagement that the book holds. As an father, my family and I enjoyed this tale, and I am confident that your household will as well.
DeYoung’s stroke of excellence is short and sweet, making this book an excellent addition to every bedtime routine. A+ work.
